Missions

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

-Matthew 28:19-20

Any thinking person would admit that the world is indeed a Global village.  What happens in Gaza affects what happens in New York, and what happens in Newark affects what happens in Hackensack.  Through the use of  TV, Internet, and  instant messaging,  we are instantly connected.  The church must confront the same enemies around the world: poverty, ignorance, and disease.

At Mount Olive Baptist Church we recognize that we are our Brother’s and Sister’s Keepers we know that we are commanded to go into the entire world extending a hand of love and friendship.  We believe that missions are central to the church’s purpose; we find it impossible to be the church of Jesus Christ without having a heart for giving and caring.

At Mount Olive our vision for missions is both local and global.  We certainly cannot afford to close our eyes to the human need next door as homeless and hurting people come to our doors.  Therefore, we have an active Benevolence ministry that helps hundreds of people every year in our local community.  Through this ministry we help people pay their utilities, rent, and provide food.  Aid to families is provided without regard to race or religion.

In addition to our local assistance, we are aware that we have a responsibility to help poor people around the world.  We are keenly aware of refugees, diseased people without hope, and people displaced by national disasters etc.  We feel the pain of suffering humanity, no matter where they are and we voluntarily put ourselves right in the midst of their suffering trying to bring the presence of Christ’s love to dehumanizing situations.  Although we know that we cannot eliminate all suffering in the world, we want to register our intent and our desire to partner with God in an effort preach the word and be the word around the world.
